Well, sort of. I mean, Amaterasu is the sun goddess of Japan, bearing the three emblems of the imperial house, Ushiwakamaru was a legendary swordsman of the late Heian period who defeated the warrior monk Benkei, and if I recall correctly the tale of Issun-bōshi and the Lucky Mallet is a fairly popular Japanese fairy tale.
Even most of what I know about the local ghosts are based out of stuff I learned from reading stories or watching movies and playing video-games. It's really surreal, I'll admit. I never really thought I'd ever meet the people I read about or that any of my hobbies would end up being my means of survival.
