[A. 339 Brady Lane]

Breakfast's ready!

[Guess what guys, Mika has made a massive amount of scrambled eggs! Considering what she put in them you'd think she'd been making an omelet before giving up! Diced tomatoes, green peppers, bacon, cheese, a little bit of onion, with large stacks of bacon and sausages on the side. For Annie she left a plate of red meat and raw eggs on the side. Mika is going to stuff her face and then scuttle off to work, but if asked nicely, she might make a bagged lunch for her housemates before she scampers off.]

[B. Hospital]

[After making her way to work, Mika can be seen going about her job in that slightly worried fashion that a newbie has. Worrying and fussing in an attempt to double-check if she's gotten anything wrong or if she's forgotten something important or if she's going to be late or doesn't have what she needs in time.

When she isn't tripping over her own feet and falling on her face with a loud yelp, that is. Seems like someone is having difficulty adjusting to her very chubby human body. What's wrong with this girl and why is she always falling on her face, anyway? After one particularly fantastic spill, tray full of bandages flying out of her hands and everything, Mika pushes herself up with a groan, rubbing her face. An interesting assortment of bruises on her knees and elbows makes it look like this has been happening with ridiculous frequency.]

Ow...

[With a dull sniff, she sets about collecting all her scattered supplies. Help would always be welcomed, but she's used to being ignored or patronized by the drones.]

[C. Streets of Mayfield.]

[Mika was off exploring while on her way home from work. Wandering around, trying to figure out where everything was and hopefully not getting lost on her way home.

Until she found the corpse hanging on the rec center gate. With a scream that could wake the dead, Mika turns and runs as fast as her legs can take her. Anyone catching her will have to deal with her hysterics.]

She almost drags him down with her but somehow manages to keep her feet under her this time, pointing back towards the rec center and making a noise that is one of completely inhuman distress.]

[ OH GODS MY EARS ]

[ He clamps his hands on her shoulders, trying to get her to look at him ] Mika, please! Calm down.

There is a dead body hanging from the gate!

[Obviously this is a perfectly good reason not to do as instructed.]

And panicking isn't going to help anything! So please, for Mercy's sake, try to calm down.

What if something possesses it?!

[She's baring her teeth as she glances back like the corpse is going to rip itself off the gate and come after her.]

I haven't seen any red tape in town, I need some!

[What is wrong with this line of logic, seriously.]

[ He has no idea what the hell she's talking about ]

Nothing is going to possess it, I swear.

That used to be Officer Grady, and he's dead because they've finally let him die, and he's going to stay that way.

Then what's that carved into his back?

[Sadly her German is not what it could be, and what on earth would you carve into a dead body with a knife unless it was something sinister?]

Easy, easy. I don't know- I haven't seen it. He was still alive when I saw him, if you could call that living.

Well he's not now, and somebody hung him on the fence!

[What on earth is wrong with this town, she can't even blame this kind of stuff on the ghosts anymore.]

Gods, Mika. Stop already.

Yes, there's a body on the fence. Yes, it's horrific, but if this is how you're going to react every time something like this happens, you're going to get yourself killed!

The town is twisted and cruel, and so are some of the people in it. I wish I could be more comforting, but that's just how it is.

You don't understand!

[She wants to shake him, burying her face in her hands as the tremors start. He probably hadn't heard her when she was unfortunate enough to run her mouth off at everyone during the communist scare. Which meant that he has no idea how the dead body just opened up Mika's giant bucket of crazy.

There was a reason she was screaming when she arrived in Mayfield, after all.]

The body...how do you know there's no way to stop the bodies from moving on their own? How do you know nothing's going to take it over? How do you know?!

[ Ah, hell. Now he's done it. ] ... I guess I don't understand.

[ He's a little out of his depth here, and he just sort of awkwardly keeps his hands on her shoulders, his tail giving unsure little twitches. ] It's never happened before. There was a man from a neighboring town who was caught and hanged outside of City Hall, as an example. He never moved. Nothing ever "took him over". The woman in the park more recently- she was dead and remained so. And now Olney.

They replace the drones. They don't ever reuse them, in any fashion. Mayfield operates on order, on perceived perfection. I doubt they would stoop to such methods unless things became dire.

Hauuuuuu....

[The noise sounds so strange coming from human vocal chords, but the tremors do ease up. Mika has to visibly struggle as she tries to calm herself down. Having people explain how this place works does help, but it doesn't change the years of instilled fear she gained from her last stop.]

Okay. I'm sorry, Ian, I'm sorry. I'm...I'm okay.

[She sniffs, her face flushed from having almost broken down into tears again, but she looks much more stable.]

I guess I should be thankful I can't smell him.

It's okay. I'm sorry I snapped at you.

[ He gives sort of a lopsided grin, angling his head in the direction of the rec center ]

You really should be.

No, it's fine. I know I sound crazy.

[She sighs, rubbing at her eyes. Now that she isn't completely freaking out she can feel the way the scuffed up patches on her skin sting. She really bit the dust hard a couple times in her escape.]

I think I've got the smell of enough dead bodies burned into my memory to last a lifetime.

Would you mind waiting here for me while I go take a look at it? I want to see these carvings you mentioned.

Okay. I-I'll wait.

[She huffs, glancing down at her palms as if to check them for grit.]

I won't be a minute.

[ He gives her a quick nod and then dashes off- he's a fast little bugger. He returns not long after, frowning slightly. ]

Okay.

[Still by the time he returns, Mika is sitting on the curb with her head resting on her knees, hugging her legs to keep her skirt closed.]

[ He doesn't sit, but rather comes to stand next to her. He looks a bit perplexed ]

Whatever that is carved into him, I don't know the language. But then again, I'm not from this planet, so that's not surprising.

[ He glances down at her ] Let's go.

It looks like German, but I can't read it.

Okay.

[It takes her a moment, but she gets to her feet, shuddering a little.]

... Are you going to be okay?

I don't know anymore.

I can't say I blame you. [ he shoves his hands in his coat pockets and just... starts walking. He doesn't really have a destination in mind- his only goal is to get away from the rec center ]

I guess I should be used to it.

[Mika looks a little preoccupied as she picks gravel out of the palms of her hands, as it keeps her distracted from another meltdown.]
