[With much less screaming this time!]
So, I just wanted to say sorry about the other day, and could anyone tell me where the hospital is? Apparently I actually do have a job, but I'm not sure how to get there. Also is it just me, or does the air smell different? I'm a little concerned, lavender always gave me horrible headaches.
Also seriously? What the hell is with this Red Scare? I knew this was supposed to be a 1950's knockoff, but this is just insane!
[339 Brady Lane]
Okay, guys? I don't know when I'll be back but there's a platter of pancakes on the kitchen counter and a plate of cookies next to it. You are not allowed to eat the whole plate of cookies before I get back, I didn't get to have any yet because they were too hot. I'll bite you if they're all gone when I get home.
[Where she found the ingredients for either of those is a mystery~!]

[Her tail would be wagging if she still had it.]

[Ema hangs up and heads over to the house where Mika is staying. She knocks on the door.]
no subject
[When Mika opens the door, the house still smells like she's been cooking. Still Mika seems to half-hide behind the door as she opens it.]
Do you want to come in? I don't really know what to do, is there anything I should take with me?
no subject
You should have some nurse's uniforms in your closet to change into. Other than that, all you need is you.
no subject
I will?
no subject
Although, to be fair, she doesn't know you're a wolf.]Yeah. It'll fit you perfectly, just like the rest of the clothing in there. I can wait here while you change, if you want.
no subject
[She makes a face, then steps back and beckons for Ema to come inside.]
Come on in, the cookies are on the kitchen counter if you want some while you wait. I'll get changed quickly, I promise.
no subject
[That's a new one.]
Thanks. And take your time--we won't be in that much trouble if we're a little late.
no subject
[It takes her all of five minutes before she comes back out, attempting in vain to put her hair up before she simply gives up and ties it back in a braid.]
I usually look mostly human, but I have a tail and ears and fangs and claws. Right now I can barely hear or smell, it's kind of driving me crazy, but there's not much I can do. My balance is also off right now, and I'm not sure if it's because I can't hear or my tail's gone or both.

[Ema takes the news surprisingly well. Then again, she's kind of a surrogate mom to a Hell Girl and several teenagers with fantastic abilities, is good friends with an Autobot, and has met all kinds of strange people in between. This is just another thing to add to the 'it's Mayfield' pile.]
You'll earn most of that back, over time. I just hope sooner rather than later.
You ready to go?
no subject
[She slips into the kitchen to pilfer some of the cookies, neatly wrapping them in a napkin before rejoining Ema.]
I hope so too, I feel like I'm missing half of me again, and that's never pleasant.
Yep, let's get to it.
no subject
[Ema waits for Mika to collect her cookies, then leads the way out of the house and toward the hospital.]
Being a nurse isn't too terrible a job. It's not bad paying, for a woman's job here, and if you avoid the drone doctors you don't get condescended to too much.
no subject
So, what's the difference between what we'd do here and what happens in a modern hospital? I've never exactly been much good in a case involving too much gore.
no subject
As a nurse? You're in charge of dressing minor wounds and making patients feel better about themselves and administering pills and running errands for the doctors. Actually helping the patients is man's work. You'll be okay.
no subject
Oh thank God. The last thing anyone needs is me fainting or losing it over the gurney somehow.
[She shakes her head, looking sheepish.]
It's a bad combination of blood-related anxiety and the compulsion to eat a wounded prey animal. Never really something you want people to know, and it's nothing but a problem. Bad enough I used to get teased for it, too.
[Siiigh.]
Sorry, that's...probably really weird to hear.
no subject
If you don't mind my asking, why don't you give in to the instinct? [It's a scientific question, not at all loaded. She's honestly curious.]
no subject
[Even in the human body, the stare Mika turns on Ema isn't quite human.]
I don't like my food talking back to me. It's weird.
no subject
Well, in the interest of saving you a lot of grief--there's a doctor in the hospital, goes by Black Mage. Avoid him. He tends to just kill everyone in his path, which means lots of blood and gore everywhere. He stabbed me to get to the coffee.
no subject
Black Mage? Are you serious? Like, Dungeons and Dragons or what? Sounds like someone needs an attitude readjustment.
no subject
And yes, he does. He's completely psychopathic, no sense of social considerations or the value of human life at all.
no subject
Well, if he's really the kind of Black Mage I'm thinking of, it'll make at least a little sense for him to be unhinged. Drawing the power of your magic off of all the dark energies of the cosmos would probably do all kinds of wonders for the brain.
no subject
I don't know any other people you should avoid off the top of your head. I kind of keep to myself at work, for the most part.
